Inspiration & Influences
Art and architecture serves as inspiration for Katia, who at a very young age first travelled to Europe, and has revisited many times since. The intricate structure of the Gothic cathedral of Notre Dame, the vibrant colors of the Great Mosque of Cordoba, along with the fine detail seen in Baroque paintings of Caravaggio and Velazquez; are enough to transport Katia to an artistic headspace allowing her to create authentic looks and graphic design elements used in her projects.
Heavily influenced by the maximalism movement and designers such as Martin Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto, Rei Kawakubo, and Alexander McQueen; Katia holds a deep love for conceptual fashion and wearable art.
Fluent in Adobe Creative Cloud programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, she has a natural talent for reimagining existing brands and creating new collections for them through the use of graphic design.
Katia is currently enrolled in the Miami Fashion Institute. She has also taken courses at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York.
Awards & Accolades
Katia won second place in a sustainable fashion show at Pinecrest Gardens on Earth Day 2015 for a collection of garments she created using exclusively recyclable materials.
